When you're sitting down with a kid who asks you to explain what the word means a lot of people have realised they don't even know and often get confused with the term "the bush". I grew up in Sydney and went passed Luna Park on the train every day for years and never knew this #funfact. I'm guessing that's why Sydney's Luna Park has the funhouse inside called "Coney Island".
