Are quokkas really smiling?
I wanted to believe that quokkas were joyful little Aussie animals living on their small island smiling all-day and happy to take selfies with the visitors, but it turns out it's not the case. They have protruding teeth that make them look like they're smiling 😄⠀
How far can dingoes rotate their head?
Did you know that dingos can rotate their heads almost 360 degrees to track other animals such as birds in flight? When I saw this fact, I imagined a dingo with a spinning head like an owl, but they can't actually go as far as an owl. The dingo can rotate it's head 180 degrees each way making it 360 degrees. But owls can actually spin either way 270 degrees!

How fast can emus run?
It may surprise you to learn that emus are large flightless birds and their wings are used for them to balance when they run at high speeds. An emu can run as fast as 45kmph (28mph)!

How many ocean pools are there in New South Wales?
There are over 100 ocean pools in NSW and Sydney alone has over 35 pools. Did you ever wonder why you see so many ocean pools and rock pools around NSW and not in the other states? Well, it turns out they were built to provide a safe swimming area away from the rough surf of the East Coast. Some of the pools are over 100 years old, but not a single new pool has been carved out since the 1960s.

I love this fun fact... The baby echidna is called a puggle! I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to have a snuggle with a puggle, would you??? 🤣
What do you call a group of kookaburras?
Did you know that the collective noun for kookaburras is a flock or riot? I couldn't think of a better name, some afternoons in our neighbourhood our local kookaburras are so loud they definitely sound like they're having a riot. 😁
