Facts about the emu

Hey there, Luka and I had an emu-sing time chatting about the emu.

Can the emu fly?

Emus are one of the largest birds on earth. They're very heavy birds with little wings which means they can't fly. There are other flightless birds such as the kiwi, ostrich, cassowary and penguin.

How fast can emus run?

Emus may not fly, but they can run very fast, up to 48 kmph (28mph), and their little wings help them keep their balance.

How long can emus go without food and water? After the female emu lays her eggs, the male emu sits on the eggs for 2 months. He doesn't eat, drink or leave during this time.

What do you call a group of emus?

A group of emus is called a mob. The same collective noun for a group of kangaroos.
