Explore New Zealand Flashcards
We started our Flash of Culture adventure firstly with the Explore Australia Flashcard set. After the success of that creativity baby, New Zealand was the first country to pop in a Creative Guru Sam's head. New Zealand is so close geographically to Australia and culturally similar, but, there are many cultural icons, and Maori traditions that make our Tasman neighbours so unique and our flashcards celebrate that.
Sam worked closely with a Kiwi friend to make sure all our flashcards were culturally accurate and truly represented everything that makes NZ special. The Kiwiana on our flashcards includes the Hongi, Haka, Pavlova (a controversial one but we think it's originally from NZ) and iconic structures such as Auckland's Sky Tower and Wellingtons Beehive. Choosing to include the Māori language (translated by official translators from AUT University, New Zealand) to our cards also added the extra element of culture and language, which is so important in sharing with children. After completing the initial designs, Sam engaged the help of a Māori translator to ensure sure that the translations were relevant and correct.
We are so pleased with how our NZ flashcards turned out, and the kids love them too!
